Artificial intelligence usually means computers/robots with the ability to think like a human being. More generally, it refers to any system which can do the same thing as a brain but is synthetic ("artificial"). Books on the topic are frequently philosophical (think Dan Dennett), or science fictional (think Isaac Asimov).
