Brutal Harry

Read and available freely online.

Harry Potter fan-fiction, similar to Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality in that Harry is more darkly systematic (in this case resulting from continual abuse throughout his upbringing). Published chapter by chapter, over a few months of 2011 it seems.

It was submitted to r/hpmor on the 24th of July, where it was highly praised by commenters so I loaded it up on my phone and took it for a spin.

I enjoyed the first chapter but it quickly became apparent that it was not nearly so well written as HPMoR, although there were differences that were enjoyable (such as McGonagall's Scottish accent). A few chapters in it descended into trash, however, and by the end I was skimming. All the believability and grit of Harry being a victim of serious abuse dissolved away as the author made crap attempts at him being adjusted to society or something.
