Own and read twice.
First read (December 2007)[]
Format[]
Same as second read, I believe.
Journal[]
First read it in December 2007, finishing on the 29th. I got it for Christmas that year, from Santa Claus. I remember liking it, but I can't remember how much or anything.
Rating[]
4/5 I expect.
Second read (August 2011)[]
Format[]
2006 paperback Arrow edition, from my bookshelf (originally got it new). 403 pages, 40 lines per page, 38 blank pages. 9.6 words per line[1] implying 140160 words in total, and 57 characters per line[2] implying 836215 characters in total. 434 'standard' pages (350 5.5-character words).
Journal[]
I started reading it again on the 10th of August 2011. I'd recently read someone saying how they reread it frequently and love it and I wondered at that because I hadn't particularly foreseen myself reading it again, more than once and anytime soon anyway. So after finishing Contact I had no particular plans and decided to reread it.
I was disappointed, actually, there was a lot I disliked about it. The dinosaurs had a whole bunch of absurd characteristics - nasty "reptilian" stinks, glowing eyes, better-than-chimpanzee intelligence, to name a few - and Malcolm irritated me. I don't think I'm going to like Crichton's books by and large, but we'll see.
