Added it to The List some time ago, possibly after its recommendation by a HPMOR reader. Bought it from a charity shop in Sheffield on the 10th of October 2012, for £2, after having seen it in several browsing sessions at Waterstones but in a format I didn't like the look of.

LengthEdit

I analysed one paperback as being 507 standard pages long, but one copy onlne of what I believe to be the full text I found was 943458 characters long - 490 standard pages, perhaps the discrepancy is accounted for by my error in counting blank pages or choosing an above-average-density page to count characters.

FormatEdit

Secondhand 1991 Headline paperback edition, bought from a charity shop in Sheffield. 502 actual pages, 10 blank pages, 41 lines per page, 48 characters per line[1], making it 507 standard pages long.

JournalEdit

Started reading it after finishing The Silmarillion and not liking the beginning of The Dragons of Eden. It had been sat on my bookshelf for a couple of months since I bought it so I gave it a try. On the 29th of December 2012 I had gotten to page 78 and started updating my page counts on Goodreads (I'd been reading it tentatively for a few days at that point).

Finished it on the 11th of January 2013, having read it on the way to and from a placement. Didn't think much of it, too unjustified and 'mystical' and, basically, meaningless. Bit annoyed that a HPMOR fan recommended it.

Also it didn't finish the story and its sequel was published the year after this one, so I guess I should read that.
