The Dragons of Eden

Carl Sagan

Publication date

Popular science, biology, anthropology

Own and attempted once. Recommended in Written in Stone, along with The New Dinosaurs and After Man, if you're interested in the evolution of intelligent life.

Bought it second-hand in a bookstore in San Francisco (Green Apple Books where Clement Street meets 6th Avenue) in July 2012, along with River Out of Eden.

Haven't analysed my copy yet.

First attempt (December 2012)Edit

Second-hand edition I bought in San Francisco.

Started it immediately after finishing The Silmarillion, on the 14th of December 2012. After carrying it around for a few days without reading any though I got stuck in on a bus ride and started skimming when it was apparent the first chapter was pretty boring. Got to about page 40 before deciding I wasn't interested in continuing. I think it's written at too basic a level, or else too old, that I'm not getting enough new information that I can rely on to make it worth it.
