Novel, rather different from his other works by the sounds of it, but praised in an article about bad biology in fiction (look in #9). The Wikipedia article makes it sound interesting, and it supposedly fits in to the larger continuity of his other works...
Charles Stross' Palimpsest is apparently effectively a rewrite, so might also be worth reading.
